Day 20: Winning Wine in Ohio? Not yet!

The day started with a relaxing coffee and stroll to the harbor before heading out to evaluate the Local Wine Country. 
Two Fun Facts: 1. The longest interstate in the US is not I 80, which goes from San Francisco to New York and covers 2900 miles.  It's actually I 90, from Boston to Seattle and spans 3100 miles. And wouldn't you know that I 90 runs right through Conneaut,  Ohio. 
But that's not all. 2. The longest road in the US goes even further than I 90! It's US Route 20 at a whopping 3,365 miles from Boston to Newport, Oregon. And, it also runs right through Conneaut. Crazy but true!

There were some great sights on the way, from a nice water tower, a covered bridge, great blue heron and quiet creeks. 
Our first Winery was Laurentia, a Napa quality venue with early Lodi  quality wine. My favorite was their Pinot Noir, though that was light, watery, balanced and not very fruity. 
Our second winery was South River Vineyard, housed in a church with a lovely outdoor area.  The temperature was 92 with 80% humidity which kept us inside for tasting. Their Concord Grape Ice Wine was the best offering. 
Beautiful flowers invited us into a local distillery,  which also struggled to deliver quality. Nonetheless, fun was had by all. 
Dinner time and a local, traditional, friendly Italian restaurant. Delicious food and we'd return anytime! We both ordered our go tos, Eggplant parm for me, spaghetti and meatballs for Peggy. 
Sadly, small churches are closing down as worship centers and opening as businesses like our dessert spot, the Heavenly Creamery. 
It's now halftime in the USA match with a 1-0 score.  A great day will hopefully end the same way with a victory. USA, USA, USA!
Whatever the result, tomorrow is our 588th month of marriage, or traditionally known as 49 years. Will be a great day! USA 2: BH:0 WOW!

Just 2 weeks prior to our trip. Her recovery is amazing!  Recovering from a radius break and chip  It's always a joy to pack for a 3 1/2 week trip, especially going to various micro-climates for varied events like reunions, weddings and hiking activities, all without knowing the specific weather in each location. Combined with Peggy's broken elbow limiting luggage lugging support and departing on a 5:15am flight, you can get an insiders view of all the joy!  No 55th High School reunion can allow un-pedicured feet. I do join Peggy every 8 years or so.  Then in preparation for East Coast pizza, there's the leftovers from Slice House prepared 2 ways. It was delicious and will be tough for Ny and Connecticut to beat. That said, which of these 2 preparations would you prefer?  And guess which was mine vs. Peggy's.

Day 6: Gorges and Waterfalls

Surprisingly to many, New York State, outside of the big cities, has beautiful scenery almost everywhere. Today, we enjoyed a variety of waterfalls and a beautiful gorge just near Ithaca (home of Cornell University). Joe and Judy are excellent hosts AND tour guides. These Taughannock Falls drop 215 feet, nearly 30 feet higher than Niagara. Perhaps not as wide: ) beautiful nonetheless.  Joe and Judy Jay are moving to Florida soon and they'll be bringing their joy in Jesus and all their great family memories with them. Their current and new homes are beautiful, they love their family and friends and Peggy and I truly feel part of their lives, and we couldn't be more thrilled. They saved the best home made bacon, beef tenderloin, pierogi and Jeopardy recording for us to enjoy. Our stay has been delightful. Day 1: 2:45am Starts the trip to Buffalo!

Awake at 2:45am for a 3:15 airport departure. Zach rode with us to the airport and then took our car back home. What a guy! First flight was beautiful on our way to Chicago (though they had tornado warnings earlier). We also enjoyed Southwest's new seating strategy and had an extra legroom seat, which has the added benefits of pistachios and a free drink (no thanks at 5:15am) Our 2nd flight was seriously delayed due to a mechanical issue. Boarded, unboarded and found another plane at another gate. No time deadlines for today, so no problem.  Whenever you have an unexpected wait, it's bonus time. Why not enjoy the cheese and caramel popcorn combo?  Finally we take off from Midway at 4:30 and are blessed with a beautiful view of the city skyline skirting Lake Michigan. From this distance you'd never know that challenges abound at street level.  And I wasn't fast enough to capture the 3 story drink tower, but this...
